For expats in Germany

German taxes,
explained in English.

You moved to Germany for work. The tax system did not come with a manual. We prepare your German tax return in English, fully online, and deal with the tax office for you.

Typical situations

We know the expat cases.

01

Your first year in Germany

Moved here mid-year? Income you earned abroad before arriving can still affect your German tax rate. We sort out what counts and what doesn't.

02

Leaving Germany

Your final German tax return after moving away, done remotely. Often this is where a refund is waiting.

03

Income from two countries

Salary, rent or investments abroad. We apply the double taxation treaty so you don't pay twice.

04

Freelancing on the side

Registering with the tax office, VAT questions and the small business rule. Set up correctly from day one.

05

Foreign brokers and crypto

Foreign brokers usually don't withhold German tax, and crypto follows its own rules. We declare both properly and avoid surprises later.

06

Relocation and second home

Moving costs and a second household for work can be tax-deductible. We make sure you claim them.

Good to know

Do I have to file a tax return?

Many employees in Germany don't have to, but it often pays off. Filing is mandatory, for example, if:

  • you received income abroad or benefits such as parental allowance that affect your tax rate,
  • you had other income besides your salary of more than 410 euros,
  • you and your spouse use the tax class combination III and V.

If filing is voluntary, you can still submit returns up to four years back. Many expats get money back, for instance for relocation costs, double housekeeping or work equipment.

How it works

Do I need to live near your office?

No. We work fully online for clients all over Germany, and also for clients who have already left the country.

What does it cost?
